Uniform Therapy

Effective Counselling with Uniform Therapy

Blue light workers see and hear things on a daily basis that other people don't tend to experience in the same way. The constant exposure to difficult situations has a cumulative effect on us.

This can be tiring, and it is no wonder that we sometimes feel overwhelmed.

Maybe you can't talk to those at home, or you feel that you don't want to be a burden. Your colleagues at work might be supportive, but you might want to talk to someone who is properly trained and impartial.

It can be too easy to accept the feelings that come with the job. This constant barrage of witnessing other people's trauma can have a vicarious effect on us, and we can become overwhelmed.

If your body just feels wrong or is telling you that it is constantly tired, please listen to it, it is telling you something.

Not all trauma is PTSD, and constantly dealing with others in life threatening situations can affect us to the point where we accept these feelings within us as being normal. They are not.

There are ways to restore some kind of balance, and this is where I may be able to help. I can work with you in a professional way to help you manage these feelings.

About Me

Kev2_edited.jpg

I have over forty years’ experience working in the emergency services, half of them at the sharp end. I understand the organisational cultures that you work in.

I am an integrative counsellor by training, which means that I am able to use a number of approaches and techniques to best support you. You might have heard of terms such as CBT, Person Centred, Jungian, Psychodynamic and others. Each of these has a slightly different focus, and I am able to select the best to suit your needs.

My interests are as diverse as general wellbeing, stress at work, and trauma related issues, and have a particular interest in the Polyvagal Theory and how workers in the emergency services adapt to situations.

I have previously worked with the Mind charity (being a Blue Light Champion in my last role) and was a trainer for the Samaritans. Whilst blue lights are a speciality, I am competent to manage general counselling.

I am based in Lincoln, UK, and currently offer online counselling, for which I have recently undergone specific training. Face to face counselling is also available in Lincoln.

When I needed support, there were very few counsellors who understood what it was like to work in the emergency services, so I trained to be a counsellor so that I could offer that 'something special' to those who needed it.
I hope that I can offer a good understanding where you are, so that you don't have to spend ages explaining to someone else who "Just doesn't get it."

So, if you take the very big step, and decide to speak confidentially with a counsellor, you might want someone who has some idea of what your world looks like, and how best to support you.
I offer telephone or online counselling, with limited availability for face to face work in Lincoln.

Please note: I can only work with people who are resident in the UK at the time of counselling.

Please email me at uniformtherapy@gmail.com if you would like further details, or a chat to discuss your needs.

Fees

My fees are £40 pounds for a standard 50 minute counselling session via telephone or online via Zoom.
I also have the option of face to face counselling in Lincoln.
